In life you have to fill out forms that ask for marital status.  Well, I received such in the form of duty jury summons.  The options were single, married, divorced/separated, and widowed.  I selected widow.  I was telling a friend that I had received the summons and had to send information back to the county.  I mentioned that I called the courthouse because I had selected widowed and there were questions about spouse and that I wanted to know if I was required to enter his information.  He said that I could have selected single.  Yes, technically I’m single but by selecting single I feel that I disregard the years I was married and  I believe I would still be married if my husband hadn’t died.  It is true that now I’m have the sole responsibility of me, my home, the bills, my pets, etc. but does that mean I’m no longer a widow?  I was fairly young, 29, but that doesn’t change much.

Is there ever a time after we are widowed that we should change our status from status from widowed to single?
