"I Will Never Know Why" 10 years after Columbine

Susan Klebold, the mother of Dylan Klebold, finally opens up to Oprah and shares her story about life before and after her son's tragic involvement in the Columbine shootings in April of 1999.   Teens are so fragile, and endings like these are so heartbreaking, but hopefully they will teach us to pay a little more attention, and to practice tolerance just a little harder.  Read Susan's story here : "I will Never Know Why".

So much heartbreak, so much to thing about, so much for us to learn. It just proves that you can never truly know what is going on in another person's head and that we all need to be willing to bridge that uncomfortable gap of sometimes reaching out even if the other person doesn't want us to!~

I will never be able to forget this day...my beautiful twin daughters were born on April 20, 1999. I didn't even know this horrible tragedy had taken place until the next day while watching TV in my hospital room. When we give birth to our children we have such hope for their futures. Susan was very courageous in telling her story. I can't imagine the pain she still suffers everyday.

This is a really touching story. I can't imagine her pain. It's unfortunate that it's human nature to default to blaming the parents and the kids' upbringing when kids get into trouble. I can totally see how Dylan's parents would have been clueless to his spiral into depression and anger. I couldn't help but think that his peers were in a better position to see what troubled him and reach out to him than his parents. I can't help but wonder: could Dylan have gotten the help he needed if a classmate -- someone more stable than Eric -- had been brave and reach out to him?
