The Medical Tests Every Woman Must Have

I'm only 22, and the list of things I should "get checked out" seems to be long enough to take up a month of Drs. visits and a years salary.  So, what are the real necessities?  I found this article in the May issue of Health Magazine, The Medical Tests Every Woman Must Have.

Of course, we are all different and have varying health risks and concerns, but here's a good start for the average Jane.

Mammogram and OBGYN exams are first and foremost BUT I agree with Jeanette - See a dermatologist! My father had a"pre-cancerous" spot on the top of his head - 3 months later the small spot became 5 inces in diameter and 1 1/2 later was diagnosed with melanoma lung cancer. FYI - it was not suggested he get radiation or chemo to prevent spreading systemically - they thought they "got" it all.

Mamogram is a must. Another must is a skin check. Don't take anything for granted. After several people ask me about a "scar" I had on my lip since childhood, I decided that it wasn't just a "scar" anymore and finally went to the dermatologist. After 2 surgeries to remove and rebuild my upper lip, I go every 6 months for a check.

I'm going to add Mamogram to the list.  Although I'm only 37, I just scheduled my first mamogram.  Between Phil Mickelson's wife and one of my high school girlfriend being diagnosed with breast cancer, both at the age of 37, I'm not wanting to wait until I'm 40.  Never hurts to be too cautious.
