Is it ironic her name is Jane?

Jane Angelich says her business idea was born as she observed the way her husband, a firefighter, could use multiple tools attached to his belt with retractable lines. Her big idea: Why not apply the same concept to a dog collar? Angelich spent about $75,000 developing a prototype collar with a 3-foot retractable leash built in. With a patent in hand, she approached small retailers rather than big-box stores, refining the business as she built up her network. It took about three years, ta-da! the Supercollar was born.

As the Supercollar marketing materials say, the product is "a revolutionary all-in-one dog collar and retractable leash. It is perfect for dog owners with an active lifestyle who want to make life easier and keep their pets safe."

It's no wonder that it was selected as the 2010 Best New Pet Product of the Year and recently featured on The Early Show.
