Okay, I tried a detox program to flatten my tummy and lose a few pounds. It seems to be working some but oh my gosh, I am even hotter than before. Have you heard of this? Wonder why?
I haven't heard of this but I could use some advice on Hot Flashes and trouble sleeping at night...I just turned 42 and I thought I had a couple or more years before I had to worry about these things...getting older sometimes isn't very much fun; especially when you don't feel 42!
Stick with the detox. I've found detoxing beneficial to reducing hot flashes - especially liver and gall bladder detoxes. If you have the stomach for it - mix 1/2 cup freshly squeezed grapefruit juice with 1/2 olive oil plus 2 teaspoons epsom salt. Gag it down (use a straw, if necessary). In the morning, be prepared - you will be in the bathroom a lot! You're going to see many tiny greenish "pits" in the potty. Those are actually gall stones being eliminated from your system - the bigger ones were lodged in the neck connecting to your liver. Please check into this if you have any doubts - gall bladder flushes, gall bladder cleanses, etc. Once you've cleansed your liver and gall bladder, you'll be amazed at how much your hot flashes will subside. This detoxing should be done every three months. Nasty - yes! Worth it? Absolutely!
Good luck!
I could deal with the hot flashes but the sleeplessness was unbearable. My hot flashes eventually went away although I do tend to be hotter now than I use to be.
I finally broke down and got ambien from my doctor as a sleep aid. Some nights even that doesn't work but all in all I get more sleep than before I started taking. Good luck!
Hi Jenifer,
I've found that any major change like detox or long distance air travel/jet lag or illness can really fire up the hot flashes. I'm about to do a fast and detox (well in a month or so when I get back to Hawaii). I"ll let you know how it goes. Generally, once the body stress (major change) is finished things get back to their normal.
Wish me luck! I really really really need to lose some belly.
Hi DawnRenee,
Whew, sleep problems. One of the worst horrors of the Big M. A couple things to try: a programmable fan that interrupts nighttime hot flashes at MyBreeze.net, l-tryptophan natural sleep aid, wicking sleepwear. And if these don't work, you may want to try Natural Progesterone Cream (Emerita.com or Prodnature.com).I"ve used all these - no longer need the l-tryptophan.
For more extensive info on these remedies, visit Menopause Goddess Blog and put "sleep" in the search box. Good luck. Let me know how it goes!
