My claim to fame....at one point in my life I had three children...under the age of three.

Announcements

  • The nest is filling back up....tonight at 9:30 to be exact...

Geoffrey (my oldest...he's 19) has finished his first year as a Freshman at Penn State. He's coming home tonight. We are all very excited. We're meeting him at the airport even though there is a car there for him to drive home. I've seen the posts on my kids facebook pages (Katey 16, Zach 15)....they have missed each other. Katey counts down the hours to him. It's comforting to know your children not only love each other....they like each other.

Geoffrey had a great year. He met many new friends....TOTALLY embraced the pride of being a Nitney Lion....experienced TRUE cold weather....learned to share a small dorm room with three other roommates (a very small room)....learned what being a poor college student is like....survived the inevitable break up with his high school sweetheart.....discovered tons of new music and musicians.....learned to ice skate....found his "tolerance level".....and did it all with a 3.9 gpa. Not too shabby for Year Number One.

My year.....was filled with mixed emotions. Overall....really good...but definitely mixed. His room is empty so it makes me sad when I go in it...but it's constantly clean so that's a plus. I was homesick for him for three months after he left. It took me forever to get used to not waiting up for him to come home at night. We text alot....but it's not the same as a conversation. He's happy and well adjusted and is experiencing exactly what he's supposed to experience in college life. I am very glad he doesn't seem to need to talk to me daily.....but have been sad that he didn't want to talk to me every day.....yet at the same time.....have been glad he didn't want to talk to me every day. Many times he will call just to say hey....any time there has been something major go on in his life....he calls.....he includes me....and not  just when he needs money. In fact....I don't think he's ever called....not once....to say he needed money. I'm very glad he's independent.....self directed. He makes good choices....most of the time. I'm glad I haven't had to push...and remind....and nag....to make sure he's going to class and taking care of  the basics of taking care of himself. He's in a very specialized major. Theatre...Stage Management. It's a small program. He's well thought of...and was one of the only freshmen given their own "show" to manage. I wish I could take all of the credit...but he came into this world created this way. I just sit back and watch....in amazement.

So, we've experienced our first year apart. We not only survived...it was really good. In just four hours....we'll begin to experience our "first summer home". We've already talked about it. Thankfully for him....I remember my first summer home from college. I understand his nights will begin at 11:00pm. He'll have to adjust to......someone waiting up.

I am excited to have him here every day. I've missed him. I can't wait to get to see his infectious smile (daily).....to hear him laugh with Zach and Katey.....to listen to his stories.....to whip his butt at Wii Tennis....to attend his summer show and see him perform.....to have his clothes in the laundry again!!....to hear him singing with the radio....to hear his "that's what she said" funnies......to just share his life. I'm excited to have my chick back in the nest....even if it's just for three short months.
