Warehouse Shopping

The quantity is high, the prices are low.  A recession can get you budgeting better than any other time.  Is warehouse shopping one of your solutions to saving money?  Sure, there are membership fees, but you can get 2 or even 3 times the amount of your favorite products for near wholesale prices.  Are you a warehouse shopper?  If not, tell us why.  If so, tell us what you love about them, the spectrum of things you purchase while you're there and your favorite store.

I love COSTCO ... It is SUPER hard to buy in bulk b/c it is only my husband and I, so we can only buy particular items ... I buy Toilet Paper / Paper Towels / Detergent there b/c these are items you always want on hand & it is also nice to not have to worry about buying these items again for a long time … I also buy ground turkey at Costco - It comes with 4 packs, but I immediately take it home and split each pack into 2 and put the meat into ziploc bags and straight into the freezer. Occasionally, I find really great deals on higher end items - I just got a new CHI (hair straightener) for $60; The CHI was 2x the price at ULTA.   I also just enjoy the experience of shopping at Costco …. We make it a SUNDAY activity and definitely enjoy the SAMPLES!

Oh this is a great debate in my household. I think right now we can't warehouse shop because you do need adequate storage for all of those gret bargains when you get them home. And currently, well storage is an issue. BUT I've been considering it and might start out with basics and see how it impacts the budget. Baby steps...

My parents were never warehouse shoppers. I remember going a few times when they would have a free trial, but we just never had the storage space to buy in bulk. I'm not sure what type of shopper I'll be when the time comes for me to buy for my family, I think buying in bulk definitely saves money and it always look very enticing. I often wonder though if you spend more on things you don't necessarily need because it looks like such a great deal due to the large quantity.

Growing up my mom always grocery shopped a month at a time. Our garage was like going to a warehouse itself. I recently told her that if there was ever a natural disaster we could hunker down in the garage and have plenty of non-parishables to last us a lifetime. This being said, I'm a big fan of warehouse shopping. If you do it right, and you have room for storage, you can save an incredible amount of money.

We share a Sam's membership with the in-laws, and visit every few months for stuff like paper towels and ziplock bags.  I know it's the sticker shock at the end, but I always feel like I would spend less if I bought the same amount at WalMart as needed.

I like the idea of saving money by buying in bulk, but I don't have any extra storage, so it is out of the question for me.  I just have to spend slightly more at my favorite Target store.

I go to Sam's almost every Sunday. The kids tell me I go just to eat all the samples, but I do like to go for more than that. I buy most of my groceries- snacks, meat, canned and dry goods from there. I am always running out of things if I don't, and if I run into a grocery store for one thing, I end up spending so much money on items I don't need. Going to Sam's makes me only get things I really need, because the sizes are so big and expensive. I have two refrigerators/freezers so I have enough space to store everything. I love them! (Oh, and free "lunch" on Sundays is nice too).

We don't have a membership but occasionally go with our friends who do.  Although I love the prices on staples like paper towels, toilet paper, toiletries and cleaning supplies, we always end up buying housewares, electronics and recreational items that we don't need.  Our bill always ends up being high.  And do I really need another shopping opportunity to spend money? no :)

With a household of only 2 people and a small dog, we really don't need the quantity of items that the Warehouse stores are so popular for...maybe once we have a family, we will get a membership, but I can't see us doing it anytime soon!  I love Publix, Wal-Mart & Target -- plus, I know where everything is at the stores near our house so it makes it that much more convenient! :)

We have a membership to a Warehouse (BJ's) but we usually only buy paper towels and detergent. We originally got the membership for the discounted gas, but now the price seems to be about the same as regular gas stations. Some of the warehouse items are indeed cheaper to buy in bulk, but we've found that Wal-Mart is often cheaper. I know many people despise Wal-Mart, but when you consider they are sometimes $1+ cheaper on items...it's worth it. Extra money in our pockets is always a good thing.

I am a warehouse shopper for certain items - diapers, bottled water, contact solution for example.  I like the experience and try to go with a list of things that are cheaper at the warehouse.

We belong to Costco, and shop there about once a quarter. But only for a select number of things that I know the price is cheaper. (Sometimes, you can find things cheaper when on offer at the regular grocery store--like bogo's.) And I have a hard time buying things that won't spoil so I pretty much stick to the paper goods and a few frozen items.

I am not a warehouse shopper. We had a year's membership at BJ's and went there probably 3 times the entire year. To me, it's just easier to go to my regular stores...I never found during those few trips that I saved enough money to warrant the extra trip.

I'm not a warehouse shopper though I know I should be to save money.  Every time I've tried it in the past I've spent way too much money.  Granted, what I bought lasted longer, but the immediate hit to my pocketbook was too much.  If I go back, I need to set a budget and stick to it.  I get too tempted by all the fun finds and "great deals" and before I know it I've spent a small fortune.

I use Sam's for household staples like paper towels, detergent, garbage bags, diapers, etc. All the stuff I know I'll use and HATE to run out of. Buy it once in bulk and you don't have to think about it for months.

I am not a warehouse shopper. On most nights it is only me eating, and there is really no need for me to have more food in my pantry than I can consume. If I had a family of 3 or more I would definitely take advantage of how much food you get for your dollar!

I get certain items at a membership warehouse (BJs is mine) because I think I do save and am fortunate to have the storage. I buy paper products, cat supplies, soap, gum, my Fiber One bars and almonds. You can also save on electronics.

I think placs like Costco offer great savings if you don't mind buying enough for the next month. I also like the pre-packaged scratch-prepared family meals. I do think you need to be familiar with prices at regular stores, sometimes the davings is great. Other times, the savings does not outweigh the 5 square feet it may take in your freezer:)

Costco all the way!  Toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, books, some meat (chicken breast, baby back ribs, rack of lamb, rotisserie chicken), wine, cheese, organic milk, soda, over-the-counter drugs, diapers/wipes, etc.  Take a calculator to make sure that the unit price is cheaper than the grocery and use your coupons for even better savings.  Just the savings on the laundry detergent along makes up for the annual membership fee.

I am a warehouse shopper....when budget allows. Yes, you get a large quantities of your favorite items but you better be ready to pony up the dough. With large quantities comes a larger price than if you bought a smaller package at the grocery store. It all depends on how much you can spend on groceries.

I typically buy ground beef, chicken, milk, eggs, paper products and dog food. Occasionally, I'll buy produce, if I know we'll eat it. Otherwise it's a waste.

Oh and the best thing is the discounted gas. It's usually 10 cents cheaper. Every penny counts!
