Honoring those who served with service on 911

It is hard to believe that 8 years have passed since the attacks that tore our hearts apart yet brought our nation together.

For me and many of my friends from work this date also marks the passing of Brad Talley, a colleague who died in a tragic accident 4 years ago.

So many lives lost far too soon.  So much potential never achieved.  So much love never given.  So many dreams never fulfilled.

What are we to think...feel...do...on a day like today?

I think...I know...that every person who lost their life, including my friend Brad Talley, would say we should think fondly of them and the contributions they made during their time with us.  We should feel proud of the countless people who did what they could to minimize the effects of the disaster and aid the survivors.  FInally, they would tell us to do something today that helps someone else...to give of ourselves sacrificially, just as they did.

In April, President Obama signed legislation making today the National Day of Service and Rememberance.  An organization has formed to encourage and collect our acts of service in remembrance of those who perished as a result of 911.  You can learn more by visiting their website.

We can't change the past, but we can make the future brighter for someone else just by giving of ourselves.  Make a plan, and do something today!
