Inspiring change one note at a time

The other day at Jazzercise class my instructor asked us if anyone had told us we were amazing that day.  Of course no one could say yes.  So she challenged us to tell someone they were amazing.  I took her advice and I was just was encouraged as my friend by that thought.

This is exactly the idea behind Operation Beautiful, a project started by a young woman named Caitlin who has a blog called Healthy Tipping Point.  Her mission is to, "encourage positive body image in women."  Her concept is simple:  leave inner beautify affirming messages in public places, like the one pictured above which I posted in our restroom at work.

Everyone who post a note is encouraged to take a photo and email it Caitlin at seebriderun@gmail.com.  She is collecting and posting them on her Operation Beautiful web site.

We here at Jane Nation think this is a wonderful initiative and want to encourage all our Janes to get involved.  So, grab a stack of sticky-back notes and put them in your purse right now.  You can write on them ahead of time or write whatever is on your heart when you are prompted to leave a note.  Take a photo of your note and do two things:

1)  Upload it to Jane Nation under the Currents section of the Powder Room and

2) Email it to Caitlin.  Be sure and mention that you are a Jane Nation member.

And remember, You are Amazing Just As You Are!

I am resolved to tell at least one person, in person, that she is amazing today.

That is a great idea! Even though we should all strive for heart health and a healthy body composition in order to live a quality life and prevent disease, it is most important that we love who we are and embrace womanhood. Having said that..there are no excuses to feeling amazing and we should always remind ourselves of all the great things we do everyday.

This is such a powerful way to encourage all Janes everywhere. I'm going to write a couple and put them in my purse so I have them whenever I think about it. Places I'll put them: at my gym, in the "cubbies" at my yoga studio, at the rest stop along I-10 when I travel next, on the mirror at JCrew...My friend Marni (also a Jane Nation member) spoke to a crowd of new women triathletes at last weekend's Iron Girl. She spoke about pre race nutrition. But she ended her talk with what I thought was the best advice. She made each of us promise to love ourselves at the start of the following morning's race. She told us not to say that our butts look too big in our spandex tri suits. Instead she told us to remember all the obstacles we overcame to get to the starting line. I think that will be one of my post it notes....
