I love painted toe nails. I don't love painting them or paying to have them painted (although I splurge on a pedicure every so often). It takes forever for me to paint my size 10 foot toe nails with a brush that looks like it was designed for a Barbie doll. And who has time to let the polish dry before dashing out the door?
Imagine my delight to discover a new line of products from Sally Hansen called Insta-Dri. Not only does the product dry wicked fast, the brush is wide and thin--just right for covering at least 8 of my toe nails with one stroke. My big toes took 2. No big deal.
As I was telling my friends about this delightful find, it struck me how long it has taken us to innovate this product category. For years women have struggled with tiny brushes and slow-drying, quick-cracking polish. And yet we stuck with it, assuming it just had to be that way. But it didn't.
How many other products are what they are because no one has stopped to think, and more importantly, act on what could be done to make them better? Just because something has always been done a certain way doesn't mean it has to stay that way.
The next time you get frustrated with a product or service or even with the way you are doing something, stop and ask yourself what you would do right then to make it better, faster, easier. Then make that change yourself, or write the company who makes the product or offers the service and tell them about your idea. Or, better yet, wait until we launch our new community next month, Jane Nation. Speak your mind there and get other women to chime in. Then we'll take those voices and amplify them to a level the companies will definitely hear and hopefully respond to.
