Faith makes hope possible for women in transition

Hope-1 Of the group of five women we met with on a cold night in Indy, three were married.  Each one's husband  had lost their job within the past few months…one within just a few days of our get together.  One woman had just lost her job as well.

With that backdrop you might think our dinner conversation was filled with worry, anxiety and anger.  You would be wrong.  In fact, had you been near us (or even across the restaurant) you would have heard lots of laughter and giggling, and no shortage of glasses tinkling in celebration of one thing or another.

How could these women be joyful at at time like this, especially before the holidays?  “Faith” was their first answer…quickly followed by “girlfriends” and no small amount of wine and Margarita’s.

“I believe there is an opportunity in every crisis,” said one woman.  “Everything that has been a pillar of strength has been ripped out from under us,” said another.  “I have to fully put my faith in God now.”

They are confident that their future is secure.  It is the journey they will have to take to get there that is uncertain.  They worry about their kids and how this will affect them.  They are concerned about their husbands.  But they are not at all worried about themselves.  They will do whatever is necessary to keep things running smoothly at home.  They will work more hours.  Find a new job.  Modify their spending habits.  Pray.  Believe.  Hope.
